Today I just received my first PCB conceived by me! A really simple Klon Centaur buffer.
I am really satisfied with my layout, a lot of geometry going on here, every component just fits! It is really a small PCB, I wonder whether it can fit in a 1590LB enclosure... Seems possible!
For now I am planning to use it in a patch box for my pedalboard, to use it as an optional buffer at the begining of the chain.
I did all the work on eagle, so maybe I will write down a short tutorial soon.
Hello, I really like the look of your boards. As a fellow European, where did you get your PCB manufactured?
ReplyDeleteEven if it may seem strange, it was cheaper to use OshPark based in the US than any european company. Especially with the free shipping costs... It is ideal for low series of PCB. If you want to make more, I think that there are cheaper alternative in China. I am currently making a batch of prototypes with PCBway.
DeleteThanks... I'm thinking of getting some fabricated. I love that they are purple
DeletePurple color is a OshPark symbol! I never found any purple mask elsewhere

ReplyDeleteGreat site...I just ordered an Aion Klon board based on your write-up. The values in this buffer board seem to be a bit different than the schematic that you analyzed in your Klon article ( http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LSz7YIxjc3s/VeKoi4OtTkI/AAAAAAAABkY/g7WzbgIyjo8/s640/buffer.png ). May I ask what these differences represent?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great content!
Hello,
DeleteI realized recently that the schematic I used for the Klon buffer is wrong. Actually, most of the schematic of the buffer you can find online are wrong if you compare them to the original schematic drown in 2009.
Manticore FX wrote an article about it:
https://manticorefx.wordpress.com/2015/10/29/klon-buffers-theyre-all-wrong/
I redesigned recently a buffer board with the correct values and power supply adjustements that is 100% correct towards the original schematic.
I read the same article recently while I was on the hunt for an accurate schematic. If you ever decide to sell your new buffer boards, I'll be sure to pick one up. Thanks for the reply.
ReplyDeletehey! greetings from Venezuela! amazing clones pedal dude! hey where can i find a good schematic for this buffer???? I wish to make one

ReplyDeleteHi and thanks for all this work. Ive just built an eBay kit and the input buffer has an issue with DC on the output. The unit is not mounted in its box yet and when I add a battery or psu it starts up fine but after 5 secs gradually fizzles out in 3 secs and the output raises to 9 if i put a Tektronix probe onto pin 3 input it creates stability and the DC drops back down immediately...and comes back when I release. This happens in both clean and bypass. Feeding from a Ditto looper.
